A Squoosh Alternative for Batches and Video
Squoosh is brilliant for fine-tuning one image. Smushify is for the rest: many files, video, target sizes and PDFs. Both are free and run in your browser.
Smushify and Squoosh at a glance
Squoosh, made by the Google Chrome team, is one of the best image compressors on the web, and Smushify owes it a lot: our WebP, AVIF, JPG and PNG encoders come from the jSquash project, which packages Squoosh's own WebAssembly codecs. The two tools share a lot, but they are built for different jobs.

Where Squoosh is better
If you are tuning a single image by eye, Squoosh is hard to beat. It exposes every encoder setting (chroma subsampling, encoder effort, palette reduction and more), lets you compare two different encodes side by side, offers formats such as JPEG XL, and can be installed to work with no connection at all.
Smushify deliberately keeps things simple: pick a format, a quality and a width. If you want full control over one image, use Squoosh.
Where Smushify is the better fit
Smushify is for jobs Squoosh was never designed for. Drop in a whole folder, set the format, quality and target size for every file at once, and download one ZIP. Convert and shrink videos, turn clips into GIFs, open iPhone HEIC photos on Windows or Android, hit an upload limit such as 200 KB without trial and error, or combine photos of a document into one small PDF.
Like Squoosh, everything happens on your own device. Your files are never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Is Smushify made by Google or the Squoosh team?
No. Smushify is an independent site. It uses the open-source codecs that Squoosh made available, packaged by the jSquash project, but it is not affiliated with Google or Squoosh.
Are Smushify's files as small as Squoosh's?
At the same format and quality setting they should be very close, because both use the same encoders: MozJPEG for JPG, OxiPNG for PNG, and the same WebP and AVIF builds. Squoosh lets you tweak more settings, which can squeeze out a little more for a single image.
Can Squoosh convert several images at once?
The Squoosh web app works on one image at a time. If you have many images, Smushify converts them all in one go and gives you a single ZIP.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Smushify converts everything inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to a server, so it is safe for private photos, client work and unreleased videos.
