Why convert images to WebP or AVIF?

Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page. Modern formats like WebP and AVIF keep the same visual quality at a fraction of the size of JPG and PNG, so pages load faster, use less data on mobile, and score better on Core Web Vitals, which Google uses as a ranking signal.

WebP works in every modern browser and is a safe default. AVIF compresses even further and is supported by current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Smushify also resizes images to a sensible maximum width, which is often the single biggest saving.
