Compress Images for the Web

Resize and recompress images in bulk for faster pages. Free and private, right in your browser.

The fastest ways to shrink an image

Most oversized images have two problems: they are far larger in pixels than they are displayed, and they are saved in an inefficient format. Smushify fixes both. Choose a maximum width (1280 pixels suits most layouts) and convert to WebP or AVIF, and multi-megabyte images often drop to a small fraction of their original size.

Smaller images mean faster page loads, better Core Web Vitals scores and less mobile data for your visitors.

How to compress images

Drop your images above. WebP is selected by default; switch to AVIF for even smaller files or JPG for maximum compatibility. Use "Quality for all" to tune the trade-off between size and detail, compare the before and after sizes on each card, then download everything at once.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my images get?

It depends on the original. Large camera photos resized to 1280 pixels and converted to WebP commonly shrink by 90% or more. Already-optimized images shrink less.

Which format compresses best?

AVIF generally gives the smallest files, followed by WebP. JPG is larger but works everywhere. PNG is lossless and best kept for graphics that need pixel-perfect edges.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Smushify converts everything inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to a server, so it is safe for private photos, client work and unreleased videos.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Drop in as many files as you like, use "Format for all" and "Quality for all" to set every file in one go, then click Convert All and Download All.
