PNG to JPG Converter

Make big PNG photos and screenshots small enough to share. Free and private.

Why convert PNG to JPG?

Photos saved as PNG can be many times larger than they need to be, because PNG stores every pixel exactly. JPG is designed for photographs and typically produces a fraction of the file size with no visible difference, which makes it ideal for email attachments, upload limits and older websites.

JPG is supported by every device and app, so it is the safest format when you are not sure what the recipient can open.

How to convert PNG to JPG

Drop your PNG files above with JPG selected, choose a quality (85 is a good default) and click Convert All. JPG has no transparency, so transparent backgrounds are filled with white.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to a transparent background?

It becomes white, since JPG cannot store transparency. To keep transparency and still get a small file, convert PNG to WebP instead.

Should screenshots be JPG or PNG?

Screenshots with lots of text or flat color often stay crisper as PNG or WebP. Photos and screenshots of photos are usually much smaller as JPG.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Smushify converts everything inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to a server, so it is safe for private photos, client work and unreleased videos.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Drop in as many files as you like, use "Format for all" and "Quality for all" to set every file in one go, then click Convert All and Download All.
