Why convert JPG to PNG?
Every time a JPG is edited and saved again, it is recompressed and loses a little more detail. Converting to PNG first gives you a lossless working copy, so further edits do not degrade the image. Some tools, templates and upload forms also require PNG specifically.
Converting will not restore detail already lost in the JPG, and the PNG will be larger, but it stops the quality from getting any worse.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting to PNG make my JPG look better?
No. PNG preserves the image exactly as it is now, but cannot recover detail the JPG compression already removed.
Can I make the background transparent?
Converting does not remove backgrounds. The PNG will look the same as your JPG, but you can then edit transparency in an image editor without further quality loss.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
